Would it be possible to extend the ability of SkyDemon to make it easier both to plan and to fly route legs based upon VOR radials?

For example, I've just planned a flight where I will fly from Redhill toward the DET VOR along the 260 radial with a turning point at DET260010, but this information is hard to create when dragging the line, doesn't appear on the generated PLog, and can't even be entered with the keyboard when creating a user waypoint (only lat/long format is supported). The second and third points should be easy to fix simply by giving the option to define a user waypoint using VOR/DME as an alternative to lat/long, which then also appears on the PLog. Defining a leg to be along a radial is something I concede might be harder to integrate with the SkyDemon "drag and drop" style of navigation - perhaps "snap-lines" which appear when dragging a leg within 10-degrees/30 miles of a VOR?

Thanks as always to Tim and the team for the continuous series of improvements being made to SkyDemon, and for their support during the recent Olympic restrictions.

OK, I've just found the "show RNav" option on the Plog, which addresses one of the three aspects of my original post...

Thanks Tim for answering (part of) my question before I'd even asked it! ;-)

Hi

On the desktop version, Setup > Waypoints > Add > Relative Position

Not possible at present on the iPad or Web version.

Thanks Steve - not the most intuitive part of the UI design, especially for editing, but it does work and is better than nothing.

I publish and maintain a (free) email-based service for doing exactly this. You simply specify your desired waypoints as a list of ICAO identifiers, navaid radial/ranges etc, separated by spaces on the subject-line, and send it to plogs@flylogical.com

In a few seconds you get back an email with attachments including a ROUTE.GPX file (plus a PLOG.PDF and MET.PDF briefings). You can very easily import the ROUTE.GPX into SkyDemon (with just a couple of click actions on the iPad). I find this by far the quickest way of creating routes for use in SkyDemon, especially when choosing my waypoints from lines drawn on a physical chart.

See this link, this link and this link for detailed instructions with examples. Let me know how it works out for you.
